Parent/Teacher Conference

Yesterday, we had our first parent/teacher conference about Hannah. Her daycare instructors have been observing her for development milestones like social interaction, motor skills, and language skills.

Hannah is developmentally ahead of her age in speech and motor skills. They noted that she’s a little chatterbox and is very agile in her movements.

Where Hannah needs improvement is not freaking out when she’s corrected on her behavior. When she is told not to do something she wants, she tends to throw herself down on the ground and scream/cry — in other words, she’s a toddler!

She will be transitioning to Pre-K2 sometime this spring, but is already well ahead of the game!

Potty time

Hannah’s been showing interest in potty training but didn’t seem to get it. She would wet her diaper and then say she wants to potty.

Well tonight, she said “I wanna potty” then proceeded to sit on her training potty and go – twice! Then she enjoyed flushing and washing her hands.

Mommy and Daddy did not see this coming, but we hope this the first of many successful potty breaks!

Hannah’s 2!

Our Hannah is two years old! She’s pretty hilarious and insanely smart.

For her birthday, mommy and daddy gave her some new books (that she promptly discarded) and a race car track that she loved.

Her new routine involves taking her two baby dolls and Elmo to bed with her. She loves playing house with them, trying to feed them and diaper them. Unfortunately for Elmo, that means he got a mouthful of rice and beans tonight.

At her 2 year checkup, she passed all of her tests with flying colors. She’s nearly 30 pounds and 35 inches tall.

Tomorrow we’ll be having a little party with her big sisters and Grandma Dee to celebrate.

Moving on

Today marked Hannah’s last day in the Infants classroom at daycare. All week, she’s been splitting her time between Toddler 1 and her Infants 2 classroom as part of a phased promotion to the new class. Monday, she will be with the toddlers full time.

Hannah seems to be doing well in the toddler room so far. She’s pretty much walking all the time, and slept on her cot for nap time (but also rolled off it in her sleep – oops!) Eating is still a bit of a challenge. We’re still struggling to get her to eat more ‘real’ food, so I’m hopeful that seeing other kids chewing real food will encourage Hannah to do the same.

We’re going to miss the great teachers in Infants (Miss Norma, Yaritza, Stefania and Lucy) who took such good care of Hannah, but her new teachers seem lovely as well.

The only negative  about the Toddler class is that we really need to get Hannah to school early (8:30/8:45) so she can participate in the programs, and we’re soooooooo not morning people ? We made it on time 3 of 5 days this week… maybe we’ll get to 4/5 next week!
